Ralph Twisleton rarely made appearances at the Ministry. The work was boring and the food was even worse. But for reasons the student actor couldn’t comprehend, some of his best mates actually chose to work there following the graduation from Hogwarts. One of these special people also happened to be Cara Lorenzo, the girl whom Ralph was currently seeing. He had made his first move at New Years and since then they’d begun dating. Ralph wasn’t quite sure they were at the point yet where they labeled one another as boyfriend and girlfriend, but he did like her an awful lot.
And she was the person Ralph was waiting for by the large fountain in the Ministry atrium. He hadn’t wanted to check his wand since they were going to be leaving as soon as she got off work, so he was regulated to this point before the security wizards. This suited him just fine as he took a seat on the fountain edge and flipped through a book he had taken from his school bag that was currently resting at his feet. Everyone else around him was dressed in sleek business attire; Ralph was wearing jeans and a basic t-shirt, looking every bit the university student that he was.
Whenever Ralph begun reading, he took it rather serious and it could be hard to snap his attention away from it. This was something his close friends and family knew, and occasionally he got made fun of for it. Mainly that came from his older siblings who claimed it was a Ravenclaw trait and that he was going to go the way of that infamous blacksheep Twisleton cousin who had been sorted in Ravenclaw. Of course Ralph often wondered if that relative even existed; it was probably just an old family myth to make each generation of Twisletons wonder about themselves come time for their Sorting Ceremony.April 14, 2011 at 4:08 am #3337
Lorenzo didn’t hate her job, but she didn’t exactly like it either. Being an intern meant that despite her assets, she was more liable to being bossed around by the higher-ranked officials of the department, ordered to run chores that nobody else really wanted to run, to make coffee ten dozen times a day for her boss, to send a thousand documents a day to respective departments, to type and comprehend drafts of various documents and to handle stacks and stacks of paperwork everyday. It was only in the rarest of times were she assigned on tasks that involved actual dragons, and don’t she just stretch her neck long for those moments that came only once in a blue moon. As it was, the end of a working day was really what she truly looked forward to.
Despite the misgivings of her occupation, Cara couldn’t complain about the state of her life. She had a stable albeit rather boring job, she had a lovely home which she shared with two other older girls, she had her own income – it gave her immense pride to not just rely on her family’s wealth – and she had a devoted, absolutely charming partner who was, at the same time, her best friend and confidante. It was all these things that she looked forward to whenever the clock that hung on the wall of her department office ticked up to 5.30 in the evening, though for today, it was really probably more the last factor.
It was mere minutes past that hour when the 18-year-old swiped her card through the device that was meant to register her arrival and departure as it did the rest of the Ministry’s employees, and soon after she was pacing through the Atrium along several hundreds of fellow Ministry workers, her near-turquoise eyes flickering about in search for one particular brown-haired wizard. It wasn’t hard to pick him out amongst the crowds, his terribly casual attire stood out like a sore thumb amidst all the office wear that her colleagues sported. She smiled involuntarily to herself when she spied him sitting at the fountain, looking terribly engrossed in whichever book that’d caught his eye for the day.
Stepping up to him, Cara nonchalantly took a seat on the edge of the fountain, though being her mischievous self she chose a spot particularly close to him. She crossed her legs, one knee over the other, and glanced about at their surroundings for a brief moment before leaning sideways slightly and whispering in Ralph’s ear, “Sir, your fly’s down.”April 14, 2011 at 4:19 am #3338
Ralph kept his eyes on the page he was reading and he mumbled a response while his dull blue eyes traced back and forth scanning the page, “One moment…”
He then took another fifteen or so seconds before snapping the book shut, glancing downward, and then turning his head to look at Cara as he replied, “You lie, Lorenzo.”April 14, 2011 at 4:42 am #3339
Cara gave a slight snort of laughter in amusement as Ralph merely pursued reading his book, not that she wasn’t to some extent used to his habits. She shook her head and waited patiently for him to finish the page he was on, quirking a smile at him when he finally looked up.
“You’re obsessed, Twisleton,” she countered sweetly.April 14, 2011 at 4:44 am #3340
“No, I’m just thorough and precise,” Ralph countered with a smile. “And it makes me look so intellectual. Don’t girls dig that?”April 14, 2011 at 6:09 am #3341
Cara raised a slender brow, “Oh, you’ve come to that need now, have you?” She maintained a straight face as she continued, giving her shoulders a graceful shrug, “I guess then I’ll leave you to your own devices. Wish you good luck in that mission there…”April 14, 2011 at 7:43 pm #3342
“Kiss for good luck?” Ralph replied with a mostly straight face, though his lips were quirked into a playful smile.April 15, 2011 at 2:46 am #3343
“Sorry, that’s strictly for rewarding purposes only,” Cara responded promptly, quirking a corner of her lips into a rather amused smirk, “you might want to earn it. Impress me.”April 15, 2011 at 10:42 pm #3344
“Impress you? I’ve not managed to do that yet? I’m here gallantly picking you up at work, offering to provide safe escort to your next point of destination, wherever that may be…” Ralph replied with his brow raised slightly and his lips curling into an expectant smile.April 16, 2011 at 7:42 am #3345
Cara laughed in amusement, “Right, there are just a great many dangers on the way back to your home.” She leaned forward slightly, narrowing her eyes at Ralph, though the smile on her lips didn’t cease, “You look suspicious. Maybe you’re just one of these dangers.”April 16, 2011 at 6:47 pm #3346
“Well security here has been keeping a steady eye on me?” Ralph replied as he cocked his head towards the security desk, where the wizards stationed there actually seemed to be paying him no mind at all.April 16, 2011 at 7:00 pm #3347
The witch turned her head slightly to glance towards the security counter. Looking back towards Ralph, she remarked with a smile, “Very convincing, Ralphie. But I suppose you do stand out from the crowds a bit too much to be a great danger.”April 16, 2011 at 7:08 pm #3348
“It’s the bad hair, isn’t it?” Ralph replied in a joking manner. “Don’t know how you can stand to be seen with me.”April 16, 2011 at 7:23 pm #3350
Cara offered helpfully, “Who knows, might be the T-shirt and the jeans, or the very Shakespearean look.” Still, she smiled and leaned in to kiss Ralph lightly on the lips.April 16, 2011 at 7:40 pm #3351
Ralph returned the quick and gentle kiss, smiling rather contentedly for a moment before grinning, “Knew you couldn’t resist.”April 16, 2011 at 7:51 pm #3352
“Doesn’t take Christmas for Santa to play nice,” Cara responded jokingly. She then nodded in the direction of the exit, “Home to dinner then?” She had fun wrecking Ralph’s kitchen every now and then when they weren’t buying from outside.April 16, 2011 at 8:25 pm #3353
“Sounds good to me,” Ralph said as he put his book away and grabbed up his bag before standing and offering his hand to Cara. “You’re my favorite person to take over my kitchen.”April 16, 2011 at 8:33 pm #3349
“Many to compare with?” Cara stood up with a mischievous smile and hitched her tote a bit higher onto her shoulder, slipping her other hand into Ralph’s naturally.April 17, 2011 at 12:55 am #3354
“Well the Twisleton house elf, Osric, makes some of the best bananas foster you could imagine,” Ralph said as he proceeded to lead the way towards the exit. “But you get more points on account of being much, much prettier than him.”April 17, 2011 at 2:10 pm #3355
Cara laughed slightly, glancing towards Ralph and giving him a mock accusing look, “Oh, Ralph. I blame all my vanity on you, I really do.”April 17, 2011 at 6:23 pm #3356
“I know, I know. You’re supposed to save the, ‘Hey baby, you’re even prettier than a house elf’ line for a special occasion like Valentine’s Day or something,” Ralph replied in a serious manner though it was obviously a joke. “But I like spoiling you.”April 17, 2011 at 6:42 pm #3357
“Wait a minute,” Cara creased her slender brows slightly in mock thoughtful fashion, “Valentine’s Day now exists in your dictionary? That’s new news, Ralph, that really is…”April 17, 2011 at 6:56 pm #3358
“Oh dear, another slip up…” Ralph replied as he stepped into the visitor’s entrance phone booth that would take them both up to the London street level. A tight fit, but naturally Ralph didn’t mind given his present company. He grinned down at her, “Just pretend I never said it.”April 17, 2011 at 7:08 pm #3359
Cara joined him in the booth, turning slightly towards him so that they could fit. This mean of exit or entrance was really just meant to accomodate one adult at a time. Still, she didn’t mind. She smirked slightly at Ralph, “Can’t swallow back what’s spoken, darling. And besides, something like that has to be kept for the record, don’t you think?”April 17, 2011 at 7:17 pm #3360
“You’ve been keeping a record all this time?” Ralph asked with an arched eyebrow.
