So, I recently got addicted to http://www.mapcrunch.com (as in, I saw the tumblr posts about it yesterday, tried it last night, and can’t get off of it).
For those of you who don’t know, it basically drops you off in the street view part of google maps in a random location around the world. From there, the general idea among people of the internet is to either find an airport, a hospital, or if you recognize it as being your home country, your own house. There’s no prize or reward, just the feeling of accomplishment. For added fun/difficulty, you can hide the location before you get dropped off.
I think the unwritten rules are that you are allowed to google certain things, but you can’t use google maps to get directions. It’s also okay to use an online translator if you see street signs.
It’s really fun and addicting. I was lucky enough to get my home city on my first try, so I’m heading home, then I’ll zoom off to a random location and try to find the airport from there.
Anyone else into this new craze?
